Walking for Freedom: SME Joins the Fight Against Sex Trafficking

SME Joins the Fight Against Sex Trafficking

SME joined hundreds of advocates at the Walk For Freedom, raising awareness for sex trafficking survivors—a cause that needs more voices.

To raise awareness and advocate for sex trafficking survivors, SME’s Carrie Greedy and Kim Bymers participated in the annual Walk For Freedom event hosted by the I’ve Got A Name organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing one-on-one support to survivors while working to eliminate sex trafficking across the state.

“It’s crazy how many people are trafficked out of their own homes, I learned,” says Greedy.

The 2024 Walk For Freedom took place from the Nebraska Union Broyhill Fountain to the State Capitol Building, with over 200 individuals in attendance. Upon reaching the Capitol Building, Greedy and Bymers, alongside the other walkers, were greeted by Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen, where he and other esteemed figures lead speeches emphasizing their commitment to making a change.

“It’s a tough subject, but it’s also something that we know exists, so why turn our backs? If you have the time and you have the resources, you’ve got to look at it and be there,” says Greedy, “I’m impressed by the event and hopeful that people continue to support the organization.”

It’s imperative that we continue to be change-makers in our communities, as these are the very places where we live, work, and raise our families. Together, we can create a future where everyone is safe and supported, one step at a time.
